Joint Committee Holds Eclectic Trade Export Consultation Meeting, Defense Policy Briefing Meeting

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (Director Kang Eun-ho) announced that it participated in the Seoul ADEX 2021 event from October 19 to 22, held a joint committee meeting between major overseas figures and the government, and held eclectic trade export consultations and defense policy briefing sessions.
Despite the COVID-19 situation, 25 government officials from 22 countries, including the director of Slovakia's modernization bureau, attended to discuss in-depth issues related to defense cooperation and exports. After the talks, the agreement on cooperation in defense R&D between Korea and the UK was revised, and a business agreement for cooperation in defense county headquarters was signed with Korea-Jordan.
In addition, in the booth prepared separately in the exhibition hall, 33 domestic defense SMEs, including Global Cornet Co., Ltd., and seven foreign companies, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Airbus, held eclectic trade export consultations to support domestic SMEs entering the global supply chain.
At the export consultation meeting, a total of 47 one-on-one consultations were conducted on mutual interests between domestic and foreign purchasing managers, explaining the standards and quality level requirements and procedures required for foreign companies to register as partners with Korean small and medium-sized companies.
In addition, even after the event, foreign companies plan to conduct 30 additional discussions with participating SMEs and conduct on-site inspections for Wonjin M&T, Samyang Comtech, Utel, Kencoa Aerospace, and Mercury gas industries.
Meanwhile, at the seminar hall on October 22, a defense policy briefing session was held for more than 20 large foreign defense companies under the supervision of the Defense Industry Promotion Bureau (senior civil servant Kim Eun-sung).
In line with the changing defense market environment, the DAPA explained to foreign company officials the "Korea-made priority acquisition system to encourage domestic companies to participate in overseas purchases" and the planned "industrial cooperation system including quota system and value accumulation."
Through a briefing session, he emphasized the need to establish long-term and strategic cooperative relationships for joint growth between foreign and domestic companies, and called for active cooperation and cooperation from foreign defense companies in promoting policies in the future.
"Through this Seoul ADEX 2021 event, we were able to introduce Korea's defense industry, which is striving to become one of the world's top five defense powerhouses, and we hope it will be a good opportunity to lead to defense export contracts," said Kang Eun-ho, head of the DAPA. "The export consultation meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity for domestic small and medium-sized companies to participate as a supply chain for leading overseas defense companies."
"We plan to continue to improve procedures and institutions to establish strategic cooperative relationships between foreign and domestic companies even after the defense policy briefing," he said.
