Satellite Communication Antenna Specialist, Global konet, Signs South Korea’s First Contract for Development of Electronically Steered Beamforming KU/KA Antenna (ESA) for Overseas Aviation Use
Global konet, a specialist in satellite communication antennas, announced that it has signed the first contract in South Korea for the development of an electronically steered beamforming KU/KA antenna (ESA, Electronically Steered Array) for overseas aviation use.
The product being developed through this contract will feature an antenna weighing only 700g, with the total weight of the data link, including the modem, being just 2kg. This ultra-lightweight solution utilizes beamforming technology to provide stable real-time satellite communication links even on aviation platforms. Additionally, the product will incorporate innovative cooling technology to address one of the key challenges of ESA antennas—heat generation—while also achieving miniaturization through a compact array structure.

Global konet CEO Kim Yeon-gon stated, “While we cannot disclose detailed specifications or the scale of the project due to an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), we are already preparing production facilities and dedicated chamber facilities in anticipation of mass production.” He also mentioned, “Securing this defense development contract has laid the foundation for us to become a global leader in the drone data link sector.”
This achievement is particularly significant as it marks the first instance of South Korean technology making a full entry into the overseas aviation defense market. In the future, Global konet’s ESA antenna technology is expected to be utilized across various sectors, including drones, UAVs, aircraft, and armored vehicles.
